Alfred Jolson

Alfred James Jolson, SJ ( born June 18, 1928 in Bridgeport, Connecticut, USA, † March 21, 1994 in Pittsburgh, USA) was Roman Catholic Bishop of Reykjavik.

Life

Alfred James Jolson joined the Congregation of the Society of Jesus and studied in the U.S. Boston College and the English Weston College. At Harvard University, he graduated with an MBA, at the Pontifical Gregorian University, he was in economics doctorate (PhD). Alfred Jolson received on 14 June 1958, the sacrament of Holy Orders. He was a longtime teacher, and a professor at the Jesuit universities in Italy, Rhodesia, Iraq and the United States, including at Saint Joseph's University in Philadelphia.

In 1987 he was appointed by Pope John Paul II appointed Bishop of Reykjavik. He received his episcopal consecration John Joseph Cardinal O'Connor, Archbishop of New York; Co-consecrators were the Bishop of Helsinki Paul Verschuren SCI and the Bishop of Bridgeport Walter William Curtis.

He died after a bypass surgery at Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh.
