Alfred Rainer

Alfred Rainer ( born September 22, 1987 in Saalfelden, † August 15, 2008 in Innsbruck ) was an Austrian Nordic combined.

He lived in Maria Alm, where his uncle took him at a young age for Nordic skiing. His career as a Nordic skier began in 1998 in the Nordic ski school principal Saalfelden. After the main school, he found his way to the other Nordic training center iron ore. There he completed an apprenticeship as a carpenter, which he was able to conclude in June 2007 with distinction. Since then Alfred Rainer trained in army training center in Salzburg ( Rif ).

Sporting successes

After a silver medal with the team at the 2006 Junior World Championships in the Salzburg notched up his greatest success a year later at the Nordic World Ski Championships Junior 2007 in Tarvisio. With a gold medal in the team and two bronze medals in the Individual and Sprint competition he finished the World Championships as the most successful athlete. By his first victory in B- World Cup in Klingenthal and other top rankings Alfred Rainer qualified in January 2007 for the first time for the A - Cup. In his first appearance in A World Cup in Zakopane, he scored as a 11th debutant and a 20th place. In the Summer Grand Prix 2007, he was also placed in Klingenthal first time on the podium in the World Cup as A- 3. In the 2006/07 season, the starting for the SC Saalfelden athlete was able to place on rank 36 of the overall World Cup. A year later, in the 2007/ 08 season, Rainer started his first full season in the World Cup. With numerous top -15 finishes and a top 10 placement he could finish his first World Cup season in 24th place in the overall standings.

Accident

On August 6, 2008 Alfred Rainer paragliding accident in his native Maria Alm difficult. The 20 -year-old Salzburg crashed during a flight from some 20 meters from height and pulled to a traumatic brain injury, pulmonary contusion and a thigh and heel fracture. He was held at the Trauma station in Innsbruck in artificial deep sleep. On 15 August 2008 he died as a result of the accident.
