Algiers tramway

The tram Algiers (Arabic ترامواي الجزائر العاصمة ) is a since May 8, 2011 which is operating tram network in the Algerian capital, Algiers.

Route network

The 2011 was put into operation first section in the east of Algiers Bordj el Kiffan connects with the Cité Mokhtar Zerhouni and has a length of 7.2 kilometers with 13 stations. On 15 June 2012, an extension of 9.1 kilometers from the bus stop at the stop Les Les Bananiers Fusillés was opened in the city center, where to transfer to metro consists. History

In Algiers, since 1898 there have been tram traffic. In its heyday, the early 1930s, there were a total of three companies whose networks were not connected to each other: the Société des tramways algériens operating on a gauge of 1055 mm at 600 V operating voltage two lines. The Société anonyme of the Tramways et Messageries du Sahel operating a single 6.4 km -long line. Finally, there was the Société des Chemins de fer sur route d' Algérie ( CFRA ), which operated a very large network of interurban streetcars. By early 1960 all trams were decommissioned in Algiers and partially replaced by trolleybuses.
