Ali Anouzla

Ali Anouzla (* in Agadir) is a Moroccan journalist. Anouzla is chief editor of the Internet newspaper Lakome.com and known for its critical coverage of King Mohammed VI.

Lakome that appears in an Arab and a French-language edition, considered by foreign observers as "the bravest medium of the country." On September 17, 2013 Anouzla was arrested for allegedly supporting a terrorist organization because he had linked to an article on the Spanish daily El País, who had informed about a video of the radical Islamist group al -Qaida in the Maghreb their readers. After Anouzlas arrest has Aboubakr Jamai, co-founder of Lakome, assumed responsibility for the Internet newspaper.

After about five weeks of detention Ali Anouzla was provisionally released on 25 October 2013. The charges of supporting a terrorist organization remains, however, maintained. If convicted, the penalty would be 10 to 30 years in prison.
