Alibori Department

Alibori is a department of Benin, with its capital Kandi. The department was established in 1999 newly formed above the region belonged to the Department Borgou. The city Kandi has not yet officially made ​​the capital, but shall perform all the functions of capital. The largest city of the department but is located on the Niger Malaville.

Geography

The department is located in the north of the country, bordered to the north by the Republic of Niger, on the northwest by Burkina Faso, on the south by the department Borgou, on the west by the department Atakora and on the east by Nigeria.

In the north of the départements is the W National Park and the hunting zone of Djona.

At the last census of 2002, the department counted 521 093 inhabitants.

Ethnic groups

The most important nations in the region are the Bariba with 32.6 %, the Fulbe with 22.1 % and the Dendi 18.2 % share of the total population.

Religions

At the last census, there were 77 % of the population, they are followers of Islam. In addition, 12.7% to traditional creeds and 10.3% known to Christianity (just under 84% of Catholics and Methodists around 6% ).
