Alice Austen

Elizabeth Alice Austen ( born March 17, 1866 Staten Iceland, New York, † June 9, 1952 ibid; actually Elizabeth Alice Munn ) was one of the first American photographers.

Austen began in 1876 to photograph with the camera her uncle. In the next 40 years, it has more than 8,000 photographs here. The oldest image is from the year 1884. Was one of the first photographers who worked outside the studio. She was also interested primarily in realistic documentary photographs - a style that was still unusual for the end of the 19th century and beginning of the 20th century.

Still about 3,500 recordings exist today of Alice Austen. A large part of it is located in the New York Public Library.
