History

During the Second World War, a POW camp for 6,000 German prisoners of war was in Aliceville. Most had been gefangenommen in Africa and had served in the Afrika Korps The camp was operated between 2 June 1943 and September 1945. The prisoners were on the St. Louis - San Francisco Railway transported by Aliceville.
