Alid Volcano

Alid seen from the west

Alid is an isolated, dissected volcano in the Danakil Depression in Eritrea. Its height is 904 meters. By rhyolitic eruptions during the late Pleistocene large amounts of ash were ejected. A 2- kilometers by three kilometers measuring grave breach cuts through the lava dome. Small cones and craters along north-northwest extending columns show the origin of large lava flows. Near the northern summit and flank shows still fumarolic activity.
