Alþingishúsið

The Alþingishúsið is a building of the 19th century in the center of the Icelandic capital Reykjavik. It houses the Icelandic parliament Althingi. The building was designed by Danish architect Ferdinand Meldahl and built from 1880 to 1881 from dolerite.

The building is already home to the National Library and a museum, and later the National Gallery. From 1911 to 1940, the University of Iceland used the premises. Until 1973 it was the official residence of the President of Iceland.
