Works

McGrath describes himself as a former atheist McGrath accepted Darwin's theory of evolution. With his latest book Atheism craze he answers to the book The God Delusion his former university colleague Richard Dawkins. McGrath sees in this book by Dawkins, in contrast to his previous books, little scientific analysis, but pseudoscientific speculation, peppered with a general critique of religion, which were mostly borrowed from older atheistic literature. McGrath regrets that a " so talented and generally understandable scientist " as Dawkins aggressively represent a fundamentalist atheism in this book without his other objective observation and painstaking research.

Criticism and reaction Dawkins'

Dawkins responded to the criticism in McGrath's work, Dawkins ' God: Genes, Memes, and the Meaning of Life, which accused him, in front of Christian theology to be ignorant by asking how McGrath would respond to the criticism of a " Feenwissenschaftlers " who would accuse him of ignorance of his faith. In the in The Dawkins Delusion? expressed by McGrath charge of being dogmatic, Dawkins replied, scientists are humble enough to admit that they did not know.

" McGrath himself has subjected the nicaeaischen creed. The universe was created by a supernatural being who is three in one. Not four, not two, but three. The Christian doctrine is remarkably specific: Not only in terms of the big questions of the universe and of life. [ ... ] And yet, McGrath has the almighty audacity to accuse me naïve belief that science has all the answers. [ ... ] Is McGrath an " ideological fanatic " because he does not believe in Thor's Hammer? Of course not. Why did he then claims that I was one, just because I see no reason to believe in the particular God whose existence he champions a lack of modesty and evidence? "

Documentary

Alister McGrath was also for the documentary The Root of All Evil? interviewed by Richard Dawkins, but cut from the film. McGrath claimed that Dawkins had felt uncomfortable during the interview. McGrath threw Dawkins journalistic Unseriösität. Dawkins wanted to convey a very specific direction and therefore McGrath's lecture had been cut out. The McGrath interview was later published in full on the DVD of "The Root of All Evil? " in the bonus program.
