Charlie - All Dogs Go to Heaven ( Original Title: All Dogs Go to Heaven ) is an American animated film from 1989, which was directed by director Don Bluth.

Action

The action takes place in New Orleans in 1939. Charlie B. Barkin, a German Shepherd, ends up by a cabal of his partner Carface Carruthers, a bulldog in prison. Thanks to his friend Itchy, a dachshund the help, Charlie can indeed flee, and soon after he is killed, however, in Carfaces order. Since all dogs go to heaven because they are good, loyal and true as opposed to the people by nature, and Charlie is found at the gates of heaven again, where he meets an angel Annabelle. However, Charlie believes to have died too early, therefore steals his life clock and returns to Earth. However, this means that the shepherd can never return to heaven again, as he has forfeited his place there; if he dies again, if so ceases its life clock ticking, he must go to hell. First, Charlie, however, is busy to take revenge on Carface. Together with Itchy he opened a bar as a rival to Carfaces casino. Shortly thereafter learns Charlie Anne -Marie know, a girl who can talk to animals. The German Shepherd quickly realize that they can be very useful to his plans because of this ability and reading her henceforth every wish of his lips. However, Anne -Marie is longing for a family and also soon finds out that Charlie works with unfair methods. A meal Anne- Marie with a childless couple, in which Charlie the girl observed, ends after the emergence of Carface with a chase in which to escape the German Shepherd and Anne -Marie Bulldog scarce. They learn King Gator, know a huge alligator, and make friends with him. Meanwhile Carface, still attacked on the hunt for Charlie, along with his henchmen Charlie's Bar and Itchy seriously injured. When the shepherd comes back, the Dachshund makes him serious allegations, because he was not there and otherwise basically would never be there for him, because he 'll take care only to Anne -Marie. To appease Itchy, Charlie tells him that Anne -Marie him it would mean nothing and only use them. Anne- Marie, who is now very ill, hears this and runs away. She is captured by Carface and put in a cage. When trying to free Anne- Marie, Charlie is tied to an anchor and thrown into the water, but is freed by King Gator. While he struggles with Carface, Charlie loses his life clock, but at the same moment threatens Anne -Marie to slip into the water and drown. Since he can not at the same time save his clock and Anne- Marie, Charlie decides to Anne- Marie and saves her life. While Carface is devoured by King Gator, Charlie's clock stops, and Charlie dies. Finally, Anne -Marie is received by the childless couple, and Charlie appears as a ghost in her bedroom to see her one last time can. Then Annabelle appears. She tells Charlie that he must return to heaven again, as he has given up his life for Anne -Marie.

The reviews were rather negative, especially the design of the characters that have been seen by many observers as unsympathetic, and the background music were criticized. Roger Ebert, however, especially praised the impressive colors that would remind him of the early cartoons.

In 1996, with Charlie - A to Heaven ( All Dogs Go to Heaven 2 ) is a sequel to the film in the cinema. From 1996 to 1999 also the series All Dogs go to Heaven was ( All Dogs Go to Heaven: The Series ) produced.
