All People's Congress

The All People's Congress ( APC ) is a social liberal political party in Sierra Leone. The theme of the party is A new Direction for a better and brighter Sierra Leone ( A New Direction for a better and more beautiful Sierra Leone).

History

From 1968 to 1992 she was a government party, in 1978 under a one-party system, the only legal party. Among the best known are the chairman Siaka Stevens and former president Joseph Saidu Momoh. Momoh was dismissed in 1992 by a military revolt of the Office.

In the first election after the civil war in Sierra Leone, the APC won on 14 May 2002 19.8 % of the vote and 22 of the 112 parliamentary seats selectable. The Chairperson and presidential candidate Ernest Bai Koroma won 22.3 % of votes.

After years of internal disputes Koroma has prevailed and was appointed in April 2007 to the presidential candidate for the upcoming elections. In August, the APC won clearly surprised the parliamentary elections and won 59 of 112 seats. Ernest Bai Koroma received 44.3 % of the vote, clearly more than the favorite and Vice President Solomon Berewa. The runoff election for president took place on 8 September 2007. Koroma won 60% of votes, Berewa 40%.
