Almindingen

Almindingen is a forest in the center of the Danish island of Bornholm. With 5,000 to 6,000 hectares, it is one of the largest forest areas in Denmark. The forest was established in the first half of the 19th century. Previously, generally accessible pastures here; hence the name, which corresponds to the German commons. In Almindingen are some of Bornholm sights, such as the Spalttal Ekkodalen, Bornholm's highest mountain Rytterknægten and castles Gamleborg and Lille Borg.

In June 2012, seven bison were in a 200- acre, gated area of Almindingen to the Svinemosen around, exposed from the Bialowieza National Park in Poland. It is part of the Danish nature conservation project for the conservation of globally threatened species, including the European bison are expected (IUCN Red List ).
