The Nodding Pincushion alder ( Alnus cordata), also called Italian alder, is a kind of deciduous tree from the kind of alder ( Alnus ) in the birch family ( Betulaceae ).

Description

The Nodding Pincushion alder grows as a tree, reaching heights of growth to about 27 meters. To form a regular conical shape which is dense in comparison with the other conical types. The leaves are dark and glossy in appearance, and in pear leaves; they are 5 × 5 to 8 × 7 cm in size. At the edge of the blade has to forward -looking teeth. On the underside of leaves tufts found in the nerves of angles distinctive orange hair. Young leaves are tinged with orange in the summer.

The Nodding Pincushion alder is very vigorous and can be over 15 meters high in 20 years.

Occurrence

The Nodding Pincushion alder is native to southern Italy and Corsica.
