Alpha Delphini

Template: Infobox double star / Maintenance / single coordinate

Sualocin the name of the star α Delphini is ( α = Greek letter alpha) in the constellation dolphin. The name goes back to the Italian astronomer Niccolo Cacciatore, whose first name is Latinized Nicolaus. Read backward results Nicolaus Sualocin (see also Rotanev ).

Sualocin lights with an apparent brightness of 3.77 m as a star of spectral type B9 and luminosity class IV, which lies about 240 light-years from the Sun. However, it is not a single star; Sualocin is - as Rotanev ( β Delphini ) - a binary star system. This means that it is here to the combined properties of the two stars.

The main star in this double star is called Sualocin Aa or α Delphini Aa, which alone has only an apparent magnitude of 3.9 m, the spectral type A0 V ( plus / minus three subclasses) belongs and has a surface temperature of about 9,400 ± 1,000 Kelvin. The gravitationally bound to it companion star - Sualocin Ab or α Delphini From - is probably a star of spectral type G9 V with an apparent magnitude of 6.4 m. These two magnitudes add up to 3.77 m above.

To complete a mutual orbit, the star system requires 17 years. Currently (2010/2011) is the angular distance of the two stars 0.21 ". Thus, the distance is too small, that one could see Sualocin in a telescope as two separate single star (because of air turbulence, see seeing ).

Ephemeris for Sualocin:
