Alphonse Leweck

Alphonse " Fons " Leweck (born 16 December 1981) is a Luxembourgian football player.

Career

Association

Leweck began his football career at Young Boys Diekirch, where he already played until the summer of 2000 in the youth department. After half a year he moved to first division Etzella Ettelbrück, labeled with the Leweck end of the season in third place in the league. He soon came to regular missions and played himself into the starting eleven of the club. 2002 and 2003, the midfielder and his team reached the final of the Luxembourg Cup. In 2002 they lost 0-1 against CS Grevenmacher, in the following year 1:3 after extra time against F91 Dudelange. Also in 2002, he had to play to avoid relegation with the club as a Table in the relegation round. There they sat down against Swift Hesperingen, Sporting Mertzig and Progres Niederkorn not and had to descend. However, the team managed its chances of promotion and lost a total of only one game during the season.

Arrived back in the first division to Leweck earned with Etzella third place and qualified for the championship round. However, it was only the third of four teams and thus failed to qualify for the UEFA Cup. The following year the team was runner-up behind F91 Dudelange. By 2007 /08 the club was never worse than fourth.

In the summer of 2010, Leweck decided along with his brother Charles to last year's champion Jeunesse Esch to change. There, the midfielder received a two- year contract. After just one season, the brothers returned in 2011 to Etzella Ettelbrück back.

National

On 14 February 2002 Leweck was in the game against Albania his debut in the senior team. On 13 October 2007, the midfielder scored in his first game after a long injury lay-off for the national team in the 95th minute the game 1-0 winner against Belarus. It was the first victory of a Luxembourg national football team in a European Championship qualifier since 1995. Likewise Leweck scored in the 2-1 victory sensation in the World Cup qualifiers the winning goal at the favored Swiss. Currently graduated from the offensive player 54 international matches, where he scored four goals.

  • Lewecks younger brother Charles Leweck is also footballers in Luxembourg. Both played together for years in Etzella Ettelbrück and Jeunesse Esch and in the national team.
