Alphonsus Liguori Penney

Alphonsus Liguori Penney ( born September 17, 1924 in St. John's) is Archbishop Emeritus of Saint John's, Newfoundland.

Life

Alphonsus Liguori Penney received on 29 June 1949, and was ordained priest incardinated in the clergy of the Archdiocese of Saint John's.

Pope Paul VI. appointed him on 23 November 1972 as Bishop of Grand Falls. The Apostolic Pro- Nuncio to Canada, Guido Del Mestri, donated to him on 18 January 1973, the episcopal ordination; Co-consecrators were Patrick James Skinner CIM, Archbishop of Saint John's, Newfoundland, and William Edward Power, Bishop of Antigonish.

Pope John Paul II appointed him on April 5, 1979 Archbishop of Saint John's, Newfoundland and was launched on 31 May of the same year into office. On 2 February 1991, he resigned from his post.
