Alpine County, California
Alpine County is the smallest county in the state of California, United States. In Alpine County are part of the Sierra Nevada. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Markleeville.
History
The County was formed in 1864 from the County Amador County, El Dorado County, Calaveras County and Tuolumne County.

According to the census of 2000, there were 1,208 people in Alpine County. There were 483 households, and 295 families. The population density was 1 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 73.68 % White, 0.58 % African American, 18.87 % Native American, 0.33 % Asian, 0.08 % Pacific Islander residents from the and 1.41 % from other races groups; 5.05% were descended from two or more races. 7.78 % of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 483 households out of which 25.50% have children under the age of 18 living with them. 43.90 % were married couples living together, 11.00% had a female householder with no husband. 38.90 % were non-families. 27.70% of all households and 5.40% had someone living alone at the age of 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.50 and the average family size was 2.96.
Based on the county the population was spread out with 22.80 % under the age of 18, 10.40 % from 18 to 24, 27.50% from 25 to 44 years, 29.30 % between 45 and 64 years and 9.90% were 65 years old or older. The average age was 39 years. For every 100 females there were 110.80 males to 100 females age 18 and over, there were 117.20 males.
The median income for a household was $ 41,875, and the median income for a family was $ 50,250. Males have a median income of $ 36,544, women $ 25,800. The per capita income was $ 24,431. 19.50% percent of the population and 12.00% of families are below the poverty line. 27.40% of those under age 18 and 10.10% were 65 years or older.
