Altay City

The city of Altay (阿勒泰 市; Pinyin: Aletai; Uighur: ئالتاي / Altay ) is a county-level city and the capital of the governmental district of Altay in Kazakh Autonomous County in the Ili Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region of the PRC.

The stone figures and stone coffin tombs of Qiemuer Qieke ( Qiemu'er Qieke shiren ji Shiguan Muqun切 木 尔切克 石人 及 石棺 墓群) are on the list of monuments of the People's Republic of China ( 5-191 ) since 2005.

Altay has an airport.

A large village Beitun (北 屯镇) was spun 28 December 2011 from the city of Altay and transferred to the newly founded city Beitun.
