Etymology
The name Old book consists of the Middle High German words old and buoch. You mean old beech forest. " Daz old buoch and daz newe buoch " were originally corridors in which originated the villages of Old and New book book.

History
Oberaltenburg book (before the Charterhouse Grunau appropriate) was mediatised in 1806 in the Principality of Aschaffenburg. Under the Old Book ( belonging to the Bishopric of Mainz) was in Reichsdeputationshauptschluss to the Principality of Aschaffenburg the Prince Primate von Dalberg. Since the Treaty of Paris in 1814 include upper and lower Altenbuch to Bavaria. In the course of administrative reform in Bavaria, the congregations have been established with the community of 1818 Upper and Lower Old Book. On April 1, 1938 Upper and Lower Old book were combined to form the political community Old Book.
Religion
Old book formerly belonged to the Catholic parish Dorfprozelten and was only around 1760 a separate parish. The Church of St. Wolfgang was built in 1770 in Baroque style and was repeatedly rebuilt and expanded.

There were 1998 in the field of Agriculture and Forestry 22, 116 in manufacturing and in trade and transport 13 persons work at the workplace.
