Geography

Althengstett is 450-606 meters above sea level in the eastern North Black Forest in short distance from the nature reserve hedges and Schlehengäu. History

Around 1120, the place is first mentioned in a document of the monastery Hirsau. The former goods originally belonged to the Counts of Calw. One of the servants of the Count with names Hingo gave the place its name later Hengstett as it is still called by its inhabitants. After the extinction of the Counts of Calw in the 13th century it first came to the Counts of Zweibrücken, but was already in 1303 to Württemberg.

On 1 October 1974, the two were incorporated previously independent municipalities Neuhengstett and Ottenbronn to Althengstett.

Religions

Traffic

Since 1872 Althengstett was joined by the Württemberg Black Forest Railway (Stuttgart - Calw ) to the national rail network. With closure of the section Weil der Stadt Calw in 1988 also Althengstett was disconnected from the rail network and changed the traffic on buses. Reactivation of the course by a shuttle service between Calw and Renningen under the name " Hermann -Hesse -Bahn " is, however, currently planned.

Water supply
