The tower of the fort Altit

The Fort Altit is an old fort in Karimabad in the Hunza valley in Gilgit -Baltistan in Pakistan. It has long been the headquarters of the ruler of Hunza state. Today, the Fort Altit is a destination for tourists.

The fort began to deteriorate into ruin until it was restored by the Aga Khan Development Network for historic cities.

Location and appearance

The fort is situated on two rocky peaks, the East Rock is higher than the western rocks. The fort was therefore adapted to the natural terrain and divided into six terraces at different levels. The sections of the fort contain, among other things, a mosque, a granary and a guest wing.
