Altötting (district)

The district Altötting is located in the Bavarian administrative region Upper Bavaria. Neighboring counties are in the northern part of the Lower Bavarian district Rottal -Inn, in the east of Upper Austria Braunau district, in the southern district of Traunstein and west of the county Mühldorf.

Geography

The area of ​​the district Altötting can be divided into three different landscapes. In the north, above the Inn valley, the tertiary Isar -Inn- hill country expands. This is followed by the Inn Valley connects with an average width of 10 km. In the south of the moraine hills and the high terrace fields of Alzplatte with beginnings of the foothills of the Alps.

The highest point of the county is at Tyrlaching ( 544 m above sea level. NN ), the lowest point on Innspitz in Haiming ( 346 m above sea level. NN ).

History

In the area of present-day district Altötting was 1803, the district court Burghausen and 1810, the district court Altötting. Both belonged since 1817 to the lower Danube Circle ( capital Passau). In the course of 1837 completed renaming the former districts of Bavaria in the government districts are still valid today, it came to the area change between the Isar and Danube sub- circuit or Upper and Lower Bavaria, which brought the Altöttinger space to Upper Bavaria. 1862, the District Courts and Altötting Burghausen were pooled for county Altötting. This is since then in almost unchanged boundaries. In 1939, the districts were renamed districts and county offices in district offices. In 1972, in the course of municipal reform, the municipality Tyrlaching by the county Running to Altötting.

Population Development

Between 1988 and 2008, the Altötting also gained nearly 13,000 residents and grew by around 13%. Since 2004, the population growth has declined slightly.

Economy and infrastructure

The county is home to Altötting significant parts of the South East Bavarian Chemical Triangle. Between the towns of Burghausen, Toeging and Trostberg a triangle can be drawn, are active in the major international chemical companies. Burghausen is both the seat of the greatest work of Wacker Chemie AG and the petrochemical refinery of OMV Germany GmbH. In castle churches is the work Wittgendorf. On the grounds of the former Hoechst AG, various international companies in the chemical industry have settled. An important role tourism plays in particular by the pilgrimage in Altotting, visits the Pope's birthplace Marktl and the Burghausen Castle.

Traffic

About the local and county is connected to Eastern and Northeastern Bavaria, both by the federal highway 20 and State Road 588 to the traffic. In a north-south direction the federal highway 299, which has now been graded between Erharting and Winhöring to county road AO 35 serves as a major thoroughfare. The running in the east-west direction state road 2550 (formerly the Federal Road 12) also handles a large part of the national movement and has now been considerably relieved by the A 94. The latter crossed by the local and county border at Toeging am Inn up to Marktl the county. In 1871 the Bavarian State Railways in Marktl opened its route from Mühldorf about Neuoetting after Simbach - Braunau as the connection from Bavaria to Austria. Before 1906, the steam tram Neuoetting Altötting began operations, the much-visited pilgrimage was in 1897 connected to the local railway Mühldorf -Burghausen, which in 1894 went to Tüßling, then where in 1908 the main railway branched off to Freilassing. From her station Garching 1910 a cross- connection and consolation mountain Traunstein was prepared.

Since the closure of the steam tramway in 1930, the scope of the rail network has remained unchanged. However it came about in 1943 to a relocation of the track and the train station in Burghausen.

Today, the following four, operated by the SüdostBayernBahn cross regional train lines the County: Mühldorf - Neuoetting - Simbach ( KBS 941), Mühldorf - Altötting - Burghausen ( KBS 942), Mühldorf - Garching - Freilassing ( KBS 945) and Mühldorf - Garching - Trostberg ( KBS 947).

A part of track doubling and electrification of the route Munich - Mühldorf - Burghausen are planned and specified in the Federal Transport Infrastructure Plan as urgent requirement.

Freight transport is mainly operated by Railion and some private railway companies. The under construction Güterverkehrszentrum Burghausen is to be taken in the spring of 2014. [ Deprecated]
