Alturas County, Idaho

The Alturas County was a U.S. County in Idaho Territory and later the U.S. state of Idaho from 1864 to 1895.

It stretched along over a larger area than the former states of Maryland, New Jersey and Delaware. The majority of today's counties in southern Idaho consist at least partly made up of the original Alturas County. The name Alturas comes from the Spanish word for " mountain top " or " mountainous heights ".

Alturas County was established by the Parliament of Idaho Territory in February 1864. That same year, the mining camp Rocky Bar to the administrative seat ( county seat ) of the County was made. 1882 Hailey was the administrative seat.

1889 created the Territory of Idaho Parliament from parts of Alturas County Elmore County and the non-existent Logan County. On March 5, in 1895 the Territory Parliament united the counties of Alturas and Logan to the new Blaine County. Two weeks later, on March 18, was charged with its administration headquarters Shoshone created from the southern part of Blaine County, the new Lincoln County. Hailey was the county seat of Blaine County during the Alturas County from the map of Idaho disappeared.
