Aluminum selenide is an inorganic chemical compound of the aluminum from the group consisting of selenides.
Production and representation
Aluminum selenide can be obtained by reaction of aluminum with selenium at 1000 ° C.
Properties
Aluminum selenide is a moisture- sensitive yellow to brownish solid which decomposes in water to form aluminum oxide and selenium dioxide or aluminum hydroxide and hydrogen selenide.
The substance is white, the commercial product, however, usually yellow or brownish. It has a monoclinic crystal structure with space group Cc (a = 1168 pm, b = 673 pm, c = 733 pm, α = 121.1 °, Z = 4) and is a semiconductor.
Use
Aluminum selenide is used as starting material for the production of hydrogen selenide in semiconductor production.
