Aluminiumtriethanolat is a chemical compound from the group of alkoxides.

Production and representation

Aluminiumtriethanolat can be obtained by reacting aluminum with ethanol.

Properties

Aluminiumtriethanolat is an air - and moisture-sensitive flammable white solid which decomposes in water with a violent reaction.

Use

Aluminiumtriethanolat is in the reduction of aldehydes and ketones (see e.g. the preparation of tribromoethanol ) and used as a catalyst for polymerization. It is also used as a catalyst in the Claisen Tiščenko reaction as in the production of ethyl acetate from acetaldehyde.
