Álvaro Corrada del Río

Álvaro Corrada del Rio SJ ( born May 13, 1942 in Santurce, Puerto Rico) is Bishop of Mayagüez.

Life

Álvaro Corrada del Rio joined the Congregation of the Jesuits and received on 6 July 1974 the Bishop of Arecibo, Miguel Rodriguez Rodriguez CSsR, the sacrament of Holy Orders.

On 31 May 1985, Pope John Paul II appointed titular bishop of Rusticiana and auxiliary bishop in Washington. The Archbishop of Washington, James Aloysius Hickey, donated to him on August 4 of the same year the episcopal ordination; Co-consecrators were the Auxiliary Bishops in Washington, Thomas William Lyons and Eugene Antonio Marino SSJ. On July 5, 1997 Álvaro Corrada del Rio was appointed Apostolic Administrator of Caguas.

On 5 December 2000 he was appointed Bishop of Tyler and introduced into the office on January 30 of next year. On July 6, 2011 Pope Benedict XVI appointed him. Bishop of Mayagüez and it was introduced in September 2011, the same year in the office. Until the episcopal ordination of his successor on 28 November 2012, he administered the diocese of Tyler continue as apostolic administrator.
