Álvaro Magaña

Álvaro Alfredo Magaña Borja ( born October 8, 1925 in Ahuachapán, † June 10, 2001 in San Salvador) was on May 2, 1982 to June 1, 1984 Interim President of El Salvador.

Biography

Álvaro Magaña studied and qualified as a professor at the Universidad de El Salvador ( UES ) to the Dr. jur. soz He studied for an MA in Economics at the University of Chicago and a second degree on Economics and Finance at the Università degli studi di Roma.

Magaña was 1960-1961 Under Secretary of the Treasury; 1961-1965 Deputy Director of the Department of Economic Affairs ( OEA ); 1961-1965 Managing Director of the Joint Tax Program of the OAS / IDB / ECLAC; 1965-1982 President of the state-owned Banco Hipotecario de El Salvador; 1976-1982 Director of the Central Bank of El Salvador; 1972-1977 and 1980-1982 member of the Central Council.

Magaña was determined by the dominated by the ARENA Constituent Assembly as interim president. Since the U.S. government would have a presidency of Roberto D' Aubuisson Arrieta, not recognized because of its role in the death squads, Magaña was D' Aubuisson, which was President of the Constituent Assembly, sworn. Magaña ruled with right tendency. His interim government prepared the presidential elections of 1984.

After he was President, he devoted himself to the research and published in books and journals on constitutional law, tax law and related topics.
