Álvaro Obregón Dam

The Alvaro Obregon Dam ( Spanish, also called Presa Presa del Oviachic Álvaro Obregón ) is a large dam in Mexico in the southwest of Sonora. It is named after Álvaro Obregón (1880-1928), a general who was president of Mexico from 1920 to 1924. In 1952, it was inaugurated by President Miguel Alemán.

Is dammed the Rio Yaqui, but also the Mextiquic and the Fuerte mentioned in other sources. The dam is used for irrigation of an area of 2720 km ², of electricity from hydropower and the low- water balance.

The shut-off is a 90 m high dam. The dam is located about 56 km north of Ciudad Obregón. She is the lowest of three dams in the valley of the Yaqui. The collected water springs from the mountains on the border of the states of Sonora and Chihuahua.
