Reception

The album received mostly good reviews.

So said the critics of the music magazine Intro Autechre promoted to Amber "Sounds to light, giving the impression of weightlessness. " In particular, he highlighted the ever- on - and umschichtenden rhythms and sounds forth. One of the best pieces in this area belonged Nine and Silverside.

The British Select magazine also awarded a high rating of four out of five stars. The album sounds like an alien jazz plate ( " ... alien jazz record ... "). Pieces such as Foil let yourself sound almost conventionally the abstract sounds of Aphex Twin or μ - ziq. ( " ... Make even Aphex or μ - ziq 's abstract tones SEEM almost Conventional ..."). The album was after all no aimless experiment ("... goalless experimentation ...") but contained numerous melodies ("... plenty of melody ...").

Rather, the assessment of the average critic Riley Reinhold fell from the scene FrontPage Magazine:

" Melancholy and romantic notions ... The excess of klicheemäßigen string sounds and the lack of direction of the plate, they can appear in a light that one step further moves in the corner structureless Independent. Rarely surprised a bit here. "

The Allmusic critic Ned Raggett judged in retrospect, Amber was no better or worse than the previous Incunabula. The big step that the album marked in the development Autechres, however, was evident only in retrospect ("... the great leap forward Becomes all the more logical in retrospect. ").
