Ambroise-Marie Carré
Robert -Ambroise -Marie Carré OP ( born July 25, 1908 in Fleury- les- Aubrais, Loiret; † 15 January 2004 Ancourt, Seine- Maritime) was a Catholic priest of the Dominican, in 1975 a member of the Académie française.
Life
After attending the École Saint -Joseph and the collège Sainte -Croix de Neuilly in 1926, he joined the Order of the Dominicans in 1933 and received the ordination to the priesthood.
From 1936 to 1939 he was editor of the Christian magazine Revue de Jeunes. During the occupation of France by the Wehrmacht during the Second World War he was active as a member of the Resistance in the resistance against the occupying power. He organized the protection of people irrespective of their religion and race and was in favor with the Croix de Guerre and the Legion of Honour.
After the war, he led numerous spiritual conferences ( retreats ) in France but also in Belgium, the Netherlands, Switzerland and Italy. After he had preached for the first time in 1948 during Lent at the Cathedral of Montreal, he said several times in Canada and the United States. Between 1947 and 1959 he was a chaplain at the Catholic Union of Theatre and Music, before he then was 1959-1966 preacher at the Notre- Dame de Paris Cathedral, where he held the particular Lenten sermons and organized. Another task was the pastoral care of artists, especially actors. In 1964 he was called by Pope Paul VI. appointed to preach the spiritual exercises of Lent in the Vatican. Last Carré was in 1966 preacher at numerous fairs, sent from France Culture, where many of these sermons as Le Pretre, homme de la Parole, Dialogue of croyants et des incroyants, Sainte Thérèse de Lisieux et l' enfance spiritual released on vinyl records.
On 26 June 1975 he was elected as the successor of Cardinal Jean Daniélou a member of the Académie française, and took there the 37th armchair ( fauteuil 37) a. Carré was also a Grand Officer of the Legion of Honour, Knight of the Ordre des Palmes Académiques, Commander of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres, and Knight of the Order of Leopold II of Belgium.
