Ambrose S. Murray

Ambrose Spencer Murray ( born November 27, 1807 in Wallkill, New York, † November 8, 1885 in Goshen, New York ) was an American politician. Between 1855 and 1859 he represented the State of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives. Congressman William Murray was his brother.

Career

Ambrose Murray was born about five years before the outbreak of the British - American War in Wallkill and grew up there. During this time he attended public schools. He worked 1824-1831 as an employee ( clerk ) in a commercial establishment in Middletown. Then he moved to Goshen in Orange County and was employed there in a bank. Between 1851 and 1854 he was treasurer in Orange County.

In the congressional elections of 1854 for the 34th Congress Murray was for the opposition party in the tenth electoral district of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington, DC chosen, where he succeeded his brother on March 4, 1855. Murray was re-elected once. He retired after the March 3, 1859 out of the Congress. In 1857, he joined the Republican Party.

After his conference time he went to banking transactions in Goshen. In 1860 he took part in Chicago as a delegate to the Republican National Convention. He was also involved in many other business ventures. On November 8, 1885, he died in Goshen and was then buried in St. James' Cemetery.
