American Black Film Festival

The American Black Film Festival ( ABFF ) is a multi-day annual American film Awards, are in the African-American films and filmmakers that act before or behind the camera, excellent.

History

The ABFF was held for the first time in 1997 in Acapulco, Mexico instead, then still as Acapulco Black Film Festival. Halle Berry and Bill Duke were honored for their professional careers in the category " Career Achievement " and the feature film Hav Plenty won the contest in the category " Feature Film Competition". Miramax acquired then the rights to the film.

In 1998, the "Actors Boot Camp " was introduced by Bill Duke and received short films in competition. Denzel Washington paid tribute to Debbie Allen and Morgan Freeman as part of a surprise appearance. In the movie 1999, the festival has grown to over 1,000 invited guests and it was established under the chairmanship of Robert Townsend Board of Directors. Honored were Pam Grier and Samuel L. Jackson.

More than 2,500 invited guests for the first time presented by AOL Time Warner festival was in 2003. Gabrielle Union was in the category " Rising Star " ( rising star ) Award as best young actress and Dick Parsons presented the "Entertainment Innovator Award" to Russell Simmons. 2004 Spike Lee received the " Time Warner Innovator Award " and Rosario Dawson a "Rising Star".

In 2005, the " Best Documentary Award" was introduced as a prize for outstanding documentaries and the festival was the premiere of Hustle & Flow and Four Brothers. Guest of the festival event "A Conversation With ... ", an interview format was the musician Ice Cube. 2006 actor Cuba Gooding Jr. was a guest of the event and the film Shadowboxer celebrated its festival premiere. Cicely Tyson shone in the category of "Empowering Women to Succeed in Hollywood."

In 2007, the ABFF took place in Los Angeles, California. In the same year Screen Gems ' This Christmas premiered and Blair Underwood was interview guest in " A Conversation With ... ".
