American Conservatory Theater

American Conservatory Theater (ACT ) is a large, non-profit theater company in San Francisco, California, which lists contemporary and classical pieces. A.C.T. has its own theater building ( Geary Theatre ).

History

The A.C.T. was founded in 1965 in Pittsburgh by the theater director William Ball. After an invitation from philanthropists and city officials from San Francisco, Ball moved the company to San Francisco.

On January 21, 1967, the astonished A.C.T. the experts with twenty-seven full productions at two different stages within the first forty -week season. The San Francisco Chronicle critic Paine Knickerbocker described the opening performance of Molière's Tartuffe as an overwhelming triumph.

Alumni

Nicolas Cage, Teri Hatcher, or Winona Ryder participated in training camps for young actors.
