American Hardcore (film)

American Hardcore is a documentary independent film from 2006, which represents the first generation of American hardcore punk scene.

Content

With numerous amateur concert footage and interviews with big names inspired by Steven Blushs book of the same film portrays early American hardcore scene. He makes a connection between the repressive policies of the Reagan era and the anti-authoritarian, some explicitly political nature of this sub-culture. The film examines various aspects of the movement, the DIY ethic and straight edge, but also the violence at concerts.

Occupation

The film leaves many protagonists of the early hardcore scene to speak, including Ian MacKaye ( Teen Idles, Minor Threat, Fugazi, among others, later ), Henry Rollins (SOA, Black Flag ), Dave Smalley ( DYS, Dag Nasty ), Phil Anselmo (later singer of Pantera ), Jimmy Gestapo (later singer of Murphy's Law ), and even Moby, then playing with the band Vatican Commandos. Alternating with the interviews American Hardcore also shows a large number of live recordings of bands like Bad Brains, Black Flag, Minor Threat, MDC and others.
