American Hustle is an American film drama directed by David O. Russell from 2013 starring Christian Bale and Amy Adams in the lead roles, and Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence and Jeremy Renner in the supporting roles. The plot is loosely based on the FBI's Abscam operation.
Premiere in Germany was February 7, 2014 as part of the 64th Berlin International Film Festival. He was the only film that was nominated for the Academy Awards in 2014 for the so-called Big Five as well as for five other Oscars, but not received it.
Action
The con artist Irving Rosenfeld leads 1978 in the greater New York a good life. His wife Rosalyn and his adopted son sees Irving only when he really needs. Irving's beloved Sydney Prosser helps him with the trick cheat by posing as the rich lady " Edith Greensley " and pretending contacts with British banks.
For a loan fraud Sydney is transferred from the Fed Richie DiMaso, the two now forcing to work with him during the arrest other criminals to get mitigating circumstances. These influential politicians, led by the mayor of the city of Camden, Carmine Polito, corruption to be detected. Polito plans, with the help of investment funds to revive gambling in the state of New Jersey new and thus create many jobs.
With the idea of throwing money around will be a meeting between sheiks Polito, Irving, DiMaso and the Mobster Victor Tellegio, a subordinate of the infamous mob boss Meyer Lansky, arranged. Tellegio sniffs suspicion and requires a lot of money and the naturalization of the Sheik. In a meeting with the lawyer Tellegios group transfers, driven by DiMaso, a larger amount of money to Tellegio.
Using the evidence gathered can later the corrupt politicians, among them Polito, are arrested by the FBI. However, Irving regrets Politos impending arrest, since has developed a friendship between them, and Irving is convinced of Politos good intentions.
Irving and Sydney, however, have faked the meeting with Tellegios lawyer. With the help of the FBI's money that should actually be referred to Tellegio, they can for themselves and for immunity Polito eventually cause reduced sentence.
The film ends with the fact that Irving and Sydney operate an art gallery and live with Irving's son as a family and that Rosalyn is now with Musane together.

On the realization of the film, the film production companies Atlas Entertainment and Annapurna Pictures were involved.
The theatrical release in the U.S. was on 13 December 2013. On December 14th 2013 American Hustle was shown at the Dubai International Film Festival. In Germany the film since February 13, 2014 can be seen in the cinema.
Trivia
- During the filming of American Hustle Renner's friend, the Canadian Model Sonni Pacheco gave birth to a daughter. Mother and daughter have a special cameo appearance. Renner's mother refused such a cameo.

The film American Hustle was rated predominantly positive. The film a positive rating on the website Rotten Tomatoes peaked at 93 percent of the reviewers.
