American Iron and Steel Institute

The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI ) is the North American trade association of the steel industry.

The history of the AISI and its predecessor organizations can be traced back to the year 1855. It is thus one of the oldest industry associations in the United States. Its present structure was established in 1908.

The AISI awards since 1927 annually, recognizes the Elbert H. Gary Medal, named after its first president.

Steel grades are referred to in the U.S. for a system of AISI.
