The American Shorthair probably originates from the predecessors of today's British Shorthairs, which have been brought by the British settlers to North America.

History

The English settlers who emigrated to North America, took cats on the ships to protect their valuable cargo from mice and rats. Most of these cats settled in the new world, and developed special characteristics that helped them with their new life, especially with the air to cope. In the early 20th century breeding programs were set up to bring out the advantages of these cats. Originally the breed as the " Domestic Shorthair" ( house cat ) was designated in 1966 but renamed " American Shorthair" to distinguish their American character of other races. In addition, they should be lifted from the streets cats.

Appearance

The American Shorthair is a very athletic cat. Has a larger, leaner and more powerful body than its cousin, the British Shorthair, has It is medium to large in size, strong and muscular, not too compact but supple. The chest is round and well developed. The legs are strong, strong, medium, and end in firm, round paws. The medium length tail has a broad base and ends, tapering into a round tip. The American Shorthair likes to eat wet and dry food. She loves to eat chicken, rabbit or beef.

The American Shorthair is at shows an easily manageable cat.

Health

As with many other breeds also HCM is present at the American Shorthair and should be tested.
