The Park Place Tower ( formerly American Tract Society Building ) is a 20 - story high-rise in Manhattan, New York City. It is located in the Nassau Street 150, next to the Beekman Tower and the former New York Times Building in City Hall. The American Tract Society Building was the first skyscraper which reached 20 floors in New York and is now the oldest standing 20 -storey building in the world.

History

The American Tract Society Building was built from 1894 to 1895. It was designed by architect R. H. Robertson, who was previously best known for its churches and other office buildings. It is one of the first built of a steel skeleton skyscraper and was on its completion the tallest office building in the city. The American Tract Society was founded in 1845 and was a publishing company which made ​​a name for itself through publications to the American Civil War as well as religious subjects.
