The American University in Bulgaria ( AUBG, Eng. , American University in Bulgaria, Bulg Американски университет в България ) is a private, liberal College of Liberal Arts, which is located in Blagoevgrad, Bulgaria.
The University was founded in 1991. It has about 1072 students from 26 mainly Eastern European countries. The language of instruction is English. The university has three sources of funding: donations (mainly from the United States Agency for International Development and the Soros Foundation), gifts and tuition fees. The university 's mission is " to educate future leaders who are dedicated to the values of an open, democratic society and serve the community in this way. "
The potential at this university completion of the Bachelor is recognized in Bulgaria and the United States of America. There are 74 faculty members, of whom about half are American. The remaining members are mostly coming from Bulgaria. Approximately seventy percent of the students are Bulgarians, and the remaining thirty percent come from neighboring countries such as Albania, Romania, Serbia, Macedonia and the former Soviet republics (CIS ) and Mongolia. The University is a member of the network of Balkan universities.
