Americano (Cocktail)

The Americano is a classic aperitif cocktail. It is made from Campari and Vermouth rosso. As a garnish orange and lemon are used.

The Spirits are stirred in the tumbler on ice, replenished at will with a splash of soda and garnish. The Americano was first served in the bar of the allegedly Gaspare Campari, Café Campari, in the 1860s. Originally called the cocktail but not Americano Milano - Torino, which refers to the production of the two cities Spirits: The Campari from Milan and Cinzano from Turin.

It became famous for Americano, not least, by Ian Fleming's James Bond, who. In Casino Royale, the very first volume of the novel series, was appointed as the first drink an Americano

Standard recipe

  • 3 cl Campari
  • 3 cl Red Vermouth
  • ( dash soda)
  • Garnish: Lemon zest and orange column
  • Stir directly on ice in the tumbler.

Related drinks

Its closest relative is probably the Negroni. It differs from the Americano only by another ingredient that the gin.
