Amesiodendron chinense

Amesiodendron chinense

Amesiodendron chinense is, according to current research, the only species of monotypic plant genus of the family of Amesiodendron Soapberry ( Sapindaceae ).

Dissemination

The home of the kind Amesiodendron chinense is located in Southeast Asia: Southern China, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam.

Description

Amesiodendron chinense grows as a evergreen tree. The leaves are pinnate (without single terminal leaflet ). Leaf stem has a rounded cross-section. The leaflets are toothed or entire. There are no stipules present.

Amesiodendron chinensis is monoecious ( monoecious ). The inflorescence is an often much branched thyrsus. The flowers are polygamous, so there are unisexual and hermaphrodite flowers on the same plant before. The flowers are radial symmetry. The base of the flower is cup-shaped and thin-walled. There are five free, non-overlapping sepals and five, rarely six or seven petals present. When the male and hermaphrodite flowers eight, sometimes nine prominent stamens are present. The stamens are usually different lengths. The anthers are ellipsoidal. In the female and hermaphrodite flowers of the ovary consists of three parts with three chambers. The chamber is a fruit -conditioning. The stylus barely protrudes out of the ovary.

Consisting of three, grown together only at the base chambers fruit capsule usually contains only one or two chambers developed. The pericarp is strong and woody. The flachkugeligen seeds are not surrounded by an aril; their envelope is pale brown and leathery.

System

The genus was erected in 1936 by Chinese botanist Hu Xiansu. With the generic name of the American botanist Oakes Ames (1874-1950) is honored.

In 1979, the botanist Lo two types Amesiodendron integrifoliolatum and Amesiodendron tienlinense distinguished in the genus. However, as described by Lo different characteristics of the two species have been described elsewhere in each case also for the kind Amesiodendron chinense, the Flora of China currently follows this view and sees the former two species descriptions as merely synonyms of the single recognized species Amesiodendron chinense Hu.
