Ammonium hexafluorophosphate is a chemical compound selected from the group consisting of hexafluorophosphates.
Production and representation
Ammonium hexafluorophosphate can be obtained by reaction of phosphorus pentachloride with ammonium fluoride.
Also possible is the preparation by reaction of phosphonitrilic with hydrofluoric acid.
Properties
Ammonium hexafluorophosphate is a colorless salt, which is usually present in the form of square, rectangular rarely leaves or thick panels. It is readily soluble in water, also soluble in acetone, methanol and ethanol. It decomposes when further heated without melting earlier and is slowly hydrolyzed by strong acids while cooking.
Use
Ammonium hexafluorophosphate can be used for the production of many salts of hexafluorophosphoric acid.
