Ampelozizyphus

Ampelozizyphus amazonicus is a species in the family of the buckthorn family ( Rhamnaceae ) and the only member of the genus and the tribe Ampelozizyphus Ampelozizypheae. It is native to the Brazilian Amazon.

Description

Ampelozizyphus amazonicus are non-reinforced, climbing plants, vines, however, are lacking. The leaves are alternate to each other and two lines.

The flowers are either in achselbürtigen, clustered cymes or form of several cymes a panicle. The flower cups wound short, the annular disc thick. Unlike many genera of the family petals are present, they are dome shaped. The ovary is semi- inferior and dreifächrig. The fruits are fruits explosion, have stipules and are dreifächrig, the fruit per three seeds lack an endosperm.

Distribution and systematics

Ampelozizyphus amazonicus is found exclusively in the Brazilian Amazon. Species and genus were first described in 1935 by Adolpho Ducke. Within the buckthorn plants Ampelozizyphus amazonicus is classified in only in 2000 by James Edward Richardson erected Ampelozizypheae tribe, the tribe is monotypic.
