Ampuis

Ampuis is a commune in the Rhône department and is part of the region Rhône -Alpes. Live on an area of 1,557 hectares in 2661 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011), called Ampuisaits. Ampuis is located on the orographic right side of the Rhone, between the municipalities of Condrieu and Vienne.

The name Ampuis to the Roman Emporium go back ( to German market place or trading place ). Since the conquest by the Romans vines were intensively operated at Ampuis. The appellation of Côte Rôtie, whose main church is Ampuis, is the oldest wine-growing region of the northern Rhône, and thus the former Gaul. In addition, the winemaker may market their wines under the qualitatively less stringent Appellation Côtes du Rhône.

From the highway you can see the label with huge letters vineyards in steep slopes.
