Ana Carolina Reston

Ana Carolina Reston Macan ( June 4, 1985 in Jundiai, State of Sao Paulo, Brazil, † November 15, 2006 in São Paulo), was a Brazilian model.

Reston Macan was discovered at 13 in a beauty contest, worked as a top model for fashion companies such as Armani and was in the top modeling agencies Ford, Elite and L'Equipe under contract. They came to notoriety when she died of anorexia in São Paulo at the age of 21 years. At a height of 174 cm she weighed 40 kg last. This corresponds to a Body Mass Index (BMI ) of only 13.2 (people with a BMI of 18.5 to 24.5 apply in accordance with the WHO classification as normal weight ). On 25 October 2006 she was admitted to a hospital because of an eating disorder caused by the renal failure. After the kidneys failed, entered a general organ failure, leading to death.

The dispute over the lean limit for photo models became even more fueled. The fashion and modeling scene is the focus of criticism by politicians and health organizations, since the models are getting younger and are beaten simultaneously with hardly accomplishable weight requirements. Earlier this year, declared various fashion shows, plan to introduce a minimum weight for models. Madrid forbade one of the first cities in the world to the use of skinny models. Under great protest of the fashion designers and agency heads of one-third of the booked Models had to be unloaded again. Reston Macan is the second model in a short time, died as a result of anorexia. In August 2006, the 21 -year-old Uruguayan model Luisel Ramos broke down dead during a fashion show.

In December 2006, Italy adopted a rule, be at least 16 years old after taking part in fashion shows and models must have a BMI of over 18.
