Ana Paula dos Santos

Ana Paula dos Santos Cristóvão Lemos ( born October 17, 1963 in Luanda, Angola) is the wife of the current President of Angola, José Eduardo dos Santos, and First Lady of the southwest African country. She is a former model and was later a flight attendant on the plane of the President. While she was working in the presidential flights, she met her future husband. Between the years 1990 and 1994 she graduated at the State Institute of Education, a teacher training. Since 17 May 1991, both married and parents of three children, Eduane Danilo dos Santos (born 29 September 1991), Joseana dos Santos (born 5 April 1995) and Breno Eduardo dos Santos (born on 2 October 1998).

A diplomat described the President and the First Lady as " a beautiful couple dressed elegant and expensive, for all the world it looks as if they lived in Southern California ." In 1997, Ana Paula dos Santos announced undiplomatic that she wanted to enroll her five year old son on the Portuguese School in Luanda because of the " poor quality " of public education, responsible for many of her husband did. She also tried to make their presence felt in administrative matters, which attracted many Angolans. Especially their business interests, particularly diamonds, are extremely critical comments in the Angolan public.

She is patron of the Committee to support women in rural areas ( COMUR ), supports rural women with micro- credit funds. She represented her country at the micro-credit Summit of Heads of State and Government in Washington, USA, in 1997.

Ana Paula dos Santos is also active in her support of the victims of mines from the time of liberation and subsequent civil war. Therefore, founded in Angola the Lwini Fund ( Fundo de pt Solidariedade Social Lwini ), a foundation of social solidarity, which is dedicated to the civilian victims of landmines, especially women and children.
