Anasyrma

Anasyrma (Greek ἀνάσυρμα ) refers to the uncovering of the genitals or buttocks in a cultic and magical context, in particular as apotropaic action. So prevails in the mythologies of many cultures the belief that disaster can be averted by the self- certain unveiling of the vulva.

The classic example is the story of Baubo, a resident of Eleusis, which receives the completely exhausted by the search for her daughter goddess Demeter with her. All attempts to tear the guest from their dull despair fail. Since Baubo accesses other means: she goes and makes her abdomen smooth and soft as a child (ie well that they shaved the pubic hair ), then it returns, begins to drive jokes and finally covers her smooth body on, whereupon the goddess must laugh uproariously.

And Clement of Alexandria quotes from the Orphika the appropriate place:

Arnobius expressly remarks that the gesture of Baubo can be seen as a parallel and equivalent to the presentation of the phallus in the cult of Dionysus.

Another well-known example of Anasyrma is reported by Herodotus exposure of the ( identified by Herodotus with Artemis) on the Nile to the sanctuary of Bastet in Bubastis traveling women. Herodotus tells us that the very numerous pilgrims sing during the trip, clap their hands, the men play the flute and make the women with the Sistren noise. But when they came past at a point on the shore town, if walking on land, you would exchange with the women of the city Neck and taunts ( Tothasmos ) and some of the pilgrims would lift the robe and bare so.
