Anatoly Vaisser

Anatoli Wolfowitsch Waisser or (French ) Anatoly Vaisser (Russian Анатолий Вольфович Вайсер; born March 5, 1949 in Alma- Ata ) is a French chess Grandmaster of Soviet origin.

Since 1971, when he participated for the first time in the semifinals of the USSR championship, he was one of the stronger Soviet masters. In 1977 he qualified for the finals of the USSR championship. The title of International Champion was awarded to him in 1982. He achieved his greatest success in 1983 when he won the first place at a tournament in Sochi together with the Sveshnikov. In 1985 he was awarded the grandmaster title. Tournaments in Western Europe remained to him but failed until 1987.

After the collapse of the Soviet Union, he emigrated to France. He was champion of France in 1997 and finished in 1996 and 2001, second place. He represented France at the Chess Olympiads in 1998 in Elista and 2002 in Bled. In 2010 he won the Senior World Championships in Arco, and 2013 in Opatija. In team fights since 2007 he plays for the Cercle d' Echecs de Strasbourg, before he played until 2006 for the Club de Echiquier's niçois and in the 2006/07 season for the Club de La Tour Sarrazine Antibes. 1988 Waisser was with the Soviet Novosibirsk chess club team champion.

Waisser is known as an attack player. About one of its specialties, the Four Pawns Attack in the King's Indian defense, he has written a book.
