Anatrachyntis badia

Anatrachyntis badia is a butterfly (moth ) from the family of the splendor butterfly ( Cosmopterigidae ).

Features

The moths reach a wingspan 7-11 mm. They resemble Anatrachyntis rileyi, different from this style but by the reddish -brown base coloration of the forewing and the absence of the inner line on the fringe scales below the apex. In addition, the moths have gray hind wings. The first three segments of the abdomen are dorsally pale yellow, the remaining segments are gray.

The genital armature of the males is similar to that of Anatrachyntis rileyi, but differs by the more slender, parallel- left brachium, which does not have a bulbous apex and gradually widening from the base Valven.

The genital armature of females resembles that of Anatrachyntis rileyi. The sterigma is long and tapers distally. It is more out of the crease between the 7th and 8th sternite. The ductus bursae slightly longer than the corpus bursae.

Dissemination

Anatrachyntis badia is in France, Spain, the Canary Islands (Tenerife ), in the southern United States (Florida to California) and distributed in Hawaii. In Holland and the UK, the species has been introduced. After Fauna Europaea species occurs also on Gibraltar, Greece ( mainland), Italy ( mainland ), Malta, Sicily and Spain.

Biology

The caterpillars develop mainly on dead plant material. Furthermore, they were found on pine cones infested by Zünslern the genus Dioryctria.
